About

Jennifer Van Orman is an artist and writer from Maine.

Artist & Writer.

On double-secret

probation

I currently live in Virginia and have several projects ongoing, some of which I will finish, and many that will be abandoned. I would describe myself as eclectic in tastes and interests. Less generous descriptions might include messy, inscrutable, and a tendency towards clutter and ennui that can make it uncomfortable to share space with me. My home office resembles a junk shop.

I collect ephemera, particularly board games and trading cards, Patron Saint prayer cards, vintage hotel postcards, photographs of swimming pools and divers, science textbooks, fortune-telling decks, shadow boxes, maps, and all sorts of things in miniature. Very little of this work contributes to my primary source of income, and my bank balance reflects this.

Scope & Horror

In 2018, I started two very different blogs, one sort of an astrological almanac called Scope & Horror and the other called Your Bitcoin
BMI: Increase Your Resale Value
, a satiric take on wellness advice media. When maintaining these two very different streams of thought became exhausting, I smushed them together under a new and improved Scope & Horror. Currently, I am working on a very large and tangled quiz called Estate Planning: Picking a Hill to Die On, which I hope to post before I fall down on one of them myself.

In summary, it should be more than apparent that I am more than qualified to stand as an authoritative expert on life, as well as appraise others’ overall value to humankind. I mean, insurance agents do it every day. Isn’t it weird that we let them do that?
